Hi

Have just installed windows 10 and forgot to export my Outlook contacts.
But i do have an Acronis full backup of my C: disc.

I have Googled for where to find my outlook contacts but in my contacts folder on the backup i just have an init file.
Have Microsoft placed my contacts somewhere else? Please help me before i go crazy! :)

I have tried exporting my gmail contacts and importing them into Outlook but i just get blank posts. :(

As I was saying I've googled and found nothing helpful. This page was the last I visited before posting here.
Sorry for taking up your time. This is my last way of solving a matter. I always use google first because almost every problem have a solution but I couldn't find anything that worked for locating my contacts that worked. I did on the other hand found another way maybe to get them into outlook after posting this. Will be back with the solution if it's working.

EDITED:

Nope it did not work to add my live account into Outlook either. :(

Must be able to use my Acronis backup to pick out the file i need to get my contacts back...

If I recall correctly, your contacts are stored in the Outlook data file.

C:\Users\(your user name here)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Go to that location in file explorer and that is where you will find your data file. Copy that to your new installation and import it within outlook. That will give you all your email and your contacts back.

Wow Thanks! There was alot of files. One for each account with the ending .ost. Just one thing, i really want just my contacts and not the folders as well. If i use the .ost file at 1 286 888 kb will i get my contacts and the folderstructure then? I want to use this oportunity to clean out old crap. :)

There's 3 files for each mail address:

todde@gmail.com.ost
todde@gmail.com - Todde.ost where the Todde is my computername.
todde@gmail.com(2).ost

Must i use all or wich one to use?

Im not sure why there is three. I have two email accounts in my Outlook 2013 and I have only one data file. If I were you, I would use all three of them. Import data from all three and if there are duplicates, they will be overwritten. Im not sure how to get it to import just the contacts and not the mail. There might be a way, Im just not aware of it.

Ok I'll restore these 3 files into my folder on my new Windows 10 installation. And restart Outlook or must i import them?

BTW

[h=2]Offline or cached Outlook items (.ost) Maybe this is the wrong way to go. I should be looking for .pst files.[/h]

No, those are not the files you want. Im really sorry, that was my mistake. That was where Outlook 2007 stored your .pst file you wanted. With Outlook 2013 you want to look in:

C:\Users\(username here)\Documents\Outlook Files

It will be in there.

In Outlook there should be an import/export function.

Click File then

Open & Export
Import/Export
Import from another program or file
Outlook Data File

Browse to that folder I just listed and import that file. It should contain everything you need. If that doesnt work for you, then maybe someone else knows Outlook 2013 better could come along and give you better advice.

Each email has its own .ost & .pst. You will need to use the Mail shortcut in Control panel to link them, so that Outlook will find them.

If they are from an older version of Office, it can cause headaches. Slipstick.com is a great resource for Office issues. I do believe that there is an inport tool on there that makes it easier.
