Solved Where is my open pdf file?

Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell

I need to switch back and forth between an open pdf file, MS Word, and websites. I can open the pdf file fine. But if I switch to another task, the pdf file disappears. There is no icon for the pdf file on the taskbar. So then I have to open it again from scratch. What am I doing wrong?

The PDF file is likely opening in the Metro App used to view it. Metro Apps don't show up in the taskbar, Not yet anyway. Mouse up to the upper left corner of your screen and you should see a thumbnail for any open Metro Apps. Click the one you want to open it up full screen again. Doing a left edge swipe should bring up the App bar also. Alt Tab may let you select it too.

Thanks! I can't do what you suggest because I've disabled every possible Windows 8 function, like swiping etc. So I just installed Adobe Reader and made it the default to open files. Problem solved!
