Win 8 ....
hello - yesterday wsn't the first occurrence: - after installing update(10) that require a 'restart' the process of 'installing' starts after the restart takes place - i see the warning not to shut-down the computer, see the percentage of installation and then all goes black at about 16%!! Tower is showing computer still 'on' but screen goes into 'sleep'.
i wait it out.
come back to computer to find still in 'stall' (what i call it)..
I Have 'shut-down' option set to ''turn off computer if i press the on/off button on the tower;
So i try that ! no response !! it won't shut down!
- i wait and wait several hours and finally the shut-down option responded .... and the installation of the 10 updates resumed.
This incident(s) is one of the reasons i'm hesitant to try installing Win 8.1....
Any ideas appreciated !

It's not that unusual, just few days ago I had a laptop with XP sit and simmer 36 hrs. before all the updates were done. Small, almost full HDD with bad case of fragmentation was the cause. Might also be a good idea to have "High performance set for "Never sleep" mode.

If you are reluctant to upgrade to 8.1 you can download an .ISO and upgrade from it.

What is an ISO File? (ISO File / ISO Image Definition)

Windows comes in that format when downloaded from MS.
