When I exit/close IE or Google Chrome it takes me to the desktop not the Start Screen. I actually like the Start screen and do not want to end up at the desk top.

Is there anything I can do to make it go to the (Metro) Start Screen?

Is this normal or is this because I downloaded a desktop start menu ( to get the old start key back) and then decided I didn't want it - so uninstalled it. I don't know prior to that change how it behaved since I did the download almost immediately after getting my new windows 8 system.

Hi rrocco, welcome to the forums, that's the normal behaviour, if you want the metro screen, move your cursor to the bottom left and click.

I know I can easily get to the Start screen by clicking the windows key or moving the cursor but I was trying to make the system very simple for my 80 year old mother. She is going from a windows ME system ( 2000) to Windows 8. I think that the Metro Start screen will be very easy for her to navigate, but I think it is confusing that sometimes she will end up at the desktop. I would rather she only go there if she wants to by clicking on the desktop tile. Is there anyway to close IE and end up at the (metro)Start Screen?

I don't think that will be easy as Metro has it's version of IE, wait until someone more experienced to help you.

If you're using the desktop version of IE or Chrome, you'll be back on the desktop after you close them, just like any other desktop application.
