All the current features plus

- a modulated setup (à la Linux),
- remove IE (current E Version to all) EXCEPT that you put a little software that let you download the browser you want.
- better file organization (can we have MORE than folders -_-)
- more music format recognized (FLAC, ape, ogg, tta, m4a, etc, etc, etc)
- built-in music and video converter TO ALL FORMATS. Also, let it NOT be super limited.
- Built-in Send pictures to Imageshack, Photobucket, etc. Of course, to photobucket, you will need to log-in before uploading)
- Show Desktop on left OR right. Let the user choose.
- Luna* as a classic/basic theme. So, when I will run Adobe Audition 1.5, it wouldn't give a super ugly theme (I hate Windows 7's grey basic theme).
- (Better) Windows XP driver compatibility. So we don't have trouble getting it to work in compatibility mode.
- Having the direct choice between Windows 7's new taskbar and the other. Windows 7's way was just too indirect.
- Virtual desktops.

- New filesystem
- Improve dramatically the "TRIM" command for the SSDs.
- Ten times more performant than Windows XP on less hardware
- Protect Windows Kernel against viruses.**

That's it for now.

* Luna is Windows XP's theme for those that don't know
** Protect Windows' core files against changes. Files that are NOT necessary to Windows' are not protected by this. Example. Explorer.exe is protected and Resources' folder isn't (except the classic theme)

Why would you want that? Windows 8 will be three generations ahead. If your hardware or software doesn't support at least Windows 7 then time to get something new or simply don't upgrade.

Having to mantain backwards compatibility for so long will only hinder an operating system.

For starts some changes I'd like to see are:

- x64 only, full native support
- Concurrent RDP sessions w/o hacks
- Improved file system
- SMB v3
- Cloud user profiles
Besides full x64 support...those recommendations are good...
If it goes full x64 I will have it np...its just that hardly anyone will be complete ready to go that route...

Very true...it hinders 7 right now because some manufactures are forgetting devices they made only drivers for XP and aren't bothering to update drivers for 7

With Office 2010 x64 I see a lot more general users, not just enthusiasts, going x64. Even corporations like Cisco and Adobe who made a stink about not releasing x64 software are starting to. At some point Microsoft will need to go full x64 as the general user will have a hard time knowing to get x64 vs x86 but they generally know what operating system they have.

They've already drawn the line with their server products (Exchange 2007, W2K8 R2, ...)

It's not hardware wise. It's device-wise. A LOT of printers, controllers, scanners, etc only has XP drivers and make them work correctly right now is really hard.

Yeah, if anything people were upset that most newer computer hardware didn't have support for XP lol

My mom's boyfriend recently gave me his old printer, he had to buy a new one because there was no vista driver for it.

LOL @ first sentence

That's exactly my point on the second sentence. We could have that feature but only activated when it is needed.

I guess I take a more idealogical stance. If it doesn't have drivers for over one generation of OS than it is time to get a new device. By the time Windows 8 is here USB3 will be mainstream. If I'm attached to an older device than I won't upgrade my OS. Just my opinion though, I understand not wanting to spend money but why feel it is Microsoft's responsibility if a hardware manufacturer can't be bothered to support their device.

What do you want to see in windows 8? I would like to see a new kinda 3D desktop (You know the one where they have 4 desktops and you can switch between them ) and ofcourse a new layout. What would you like to see?

A Graphic EQ on the Windows Volume Mixer because I'm a bit of an audiophile.

oh yeah.. & Windows 7 Compatibility mode. :p

the ability to mount iso files is a must. i really thought (well, at least hoped) that they would have introduced it in win 7. Maybe in sp1 or sp2? we can only hope
