Brazilian, I was born and raised there. Been here for 10 years after a couple in The Netherlands. My spoken accent is much stronger than my written one...Thanks for the compliment though
I don't think I can understand Latin, written or spoken (whcih I might have heard in church, although I am not THAT old...). I believe Portuguese evolved from Vulgar Latin which is different from the Classic one and I beleive the latter is what is taought today (I just learnerd that Vulgar Latin had no written form) . Anyway, not my speciality, so don't trust me on this...
No problem, the only thing I know is that (from tales from my old Latin Teacher) that it is possible to go to Brazil speaking Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian and English and be able to read the newspaper. He subsequently went onto learn Brazilian Portugese.
