I've had 8 for a couple weeks now and suddenly running into weird USB and Bluetooth issues.

First, my Bluetooth will not let me uninstall a mouse and when I search for devices it does not find any devices. Used to pick up cell phone. Not anymore.

Second, I plugged in a USB mouse and it installed and worked. Unplugged it and plugged back in, got a message that the device was not recognized. Tried all kinds of things to get it recognized. The usual, Device Manager, drivers, etc.
No USB hot plugging in 8 without screwing things up? Even a mouse?
What the heck?

Several weeks on 8, may go back to 7.

Hi popeye,

I figured one of our fellow forum members would have jumped in to suggest some things by now so let me be the first.

Bluetooth not recognized - Go into device manage and select "show hidden devices" and delete any inactive bluetooth profiles (greyed out with code 45 I believe). Reboot and plug your bluetooth back in and see what happens.

Let's see if this works for starters. Good luck.

my2cents, Thanks for the reply.

Done all that. Believe me, I have searched the web for an answer. Seems many have the same issues. Nothing seems to work.
I've restored, uninstalled, deleted, you name it. The friggin mouse will not go away. Plus the issue with no discovery of any Bluetooth devices.

Then the issue of a USB mouse not being detected/recognized after a hot plug remove/insert. Yes, I've rebooted and all the other things one normally does.

I may be new here but I've been around the block with Windows since 3.1 days. :)

Oh, my Bluetooth is built in (Atheros), no unplugging it. Have uninstalled, many times.

Hi again popeye,

I was almost certain that you had tried every conceivable option but I just wanted to pick one out and see how you might respond. Anyway, here's another one just in case you haven't tried it yet. So, as a last resort, have you gone into the device manager and tried uninstalling any of the suspected USB hubs and/or even uninstalling the USB controllers to see if they might fix any software corruption on a reboot? If so, then I apologize for trying to provide suggestions that you may have already tried and in no way were they intended to relect on your capabilities and/or experience level. Good luck in resolving your issue.

Dang my2cents, wasn't trying to make you feel bad for helping. Was only trying to say I've tried most everything I know of and have found on internet search is all. Thought somebody here might have something new, especially Brink (Shawn). :)

I wasn't trying to insult your help at all. I will try the USB hub suggestion. What the heck, tried everything else.

Again, wasn't dissing your help. Apologize if it seemed that way.

We're good and I appreciate the help, really. This may be a deal breaker for me with 8 unless I figure it out. Never had this kind of problem that could not be fixed. Windows 7 is looking good again.

Starting to think 8 stinks as desktop system

Beginning to run into weird USB and Bluetooth issues several weeks after starting to use 8.

The issues I'm having are also rampant across the internet. Starting to believe those who say 8 is more for tablets than desktops or laptops.

I'm really trying to accept it. Scares me when I run into serious legacy issues.

We'll miss you if you go so I personally hope you find a solution. BTW, I sent you a PM that should be an interesting read.
