The most loved and unknown......

I downloaded this some time ago. It's apparently no longer available anywhere, so I've attached it. All the copies now on the Net are of the horrible album version, which was pure junk-pop.

But this is the original, the 45-RPM vinyl disc from 1979, with only 1000 copies issued. A "cult classic," the rarest, most obscure, and most lovable three minutes of "Power Pop" ever made; the glorious dying gasp of the pop-rock form that the Beatles had started. It's an American band called the Secrets* (their name included the asterisk).

Guess Who This Is!

This band made a splash in the early 70's, but they made this recording in 1967 when they were unknown.

Here's a "wma" file of the recording >>> View attachment Guess Who This Is.zip

And here's a picture of them.

I've received answers from only 23,947 people. And all of them guessed wrong. Shame on you!

Great guitar-pop, isn't it? Almost like Big Star.

That group is "The Choir" who started in 1963 and eventually became the Raspberries. (Only the Choir didn't have Eric Carmen.)

There's a CD of 18 songs by the Choir, mostly unreleased. And YouTube has the whole thing:

A ripoff of a ripoff of a ripoff of a......

An amusing sequence of events:

FIRST...... The Contours made "Do You Love Me," one of the great rock'n'roll classics.

THEN...... The Gentrys made "Keep On Dancing," which sounds like a bad copy of "Do You Love Me."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kidlojuKFx4

THEN...... The Beatles made "In My Life" (on an album).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKQpRgxyyqo&list=PLA1FBC4AF2EC1D811&index=10

AND THEN...... The Gants made "I Wonder," which sounds like "In My Life."

AND...... The name "Gants" looks like a messed-up copy of the name "Gentrys," too!

Don't worry, I'm not going to flood this forum with classical music (though I do like some of it). But if you want to really see what being a disciplined professional musician is all about, here's a beautiful video that shows the London Symphony Orchestra playing a well-known 16-minute piece, with close-up shots of the various musicians, and with no audience noise. Play it in full-screen mode and it's like a little movie. This music starts quietly and gradually builds up to a rigidly disciplined frenzy; it's been called a "musical orgasm". At the end, the conductor looks like he's having a fit.
