Hi everyone!

I've only recently signed up to Seven Forums (and still pretty much just lurk), but I have a couple of devices on Windows 8 now, so thought it was time to sign up here as well.

I look forward to actually contributing something here :)

Bonjour guys/gals.

Been around for quite some time but not had reason to post in a long time as I didn't have any form of Windows 8 since an early beta.
Well I just installed 8.1 Preview on an old SSD I had to give it a good testing out. Dare I say it, I actually quite like it so far, I have it set to boot straight to desktop, just been installing a few things, got some gadgets back to make it a little more familiar etc.

I have one question, maybe I should ask this elsewhere in the forum, but obviously with Windows 7 the first thing I would do after a clean install would be to install all the motherboard drivers, well I went straight to device manager after installing 8.1 and it appears everything is all installed. Is it wise to install all the motherboard drivers anyway? I assume these will be better than the ones Windows provides?

Cheers

Paul.

Thanks Jane and vrosa for the welcome. I found eightforums and joined 5 minutes ago. No longer a power user since retirement over a year ago. I quit my LE job in 1980 to sell RS Model II full time. So I come from $15,000 for single user system with 0 hard drive but with 3 8-inch floppy drives, capable of handling one task poorly. Got into my own business for next 6 years (Vector Graphics at first). For 20 years beginning in '92, at a university, I recommended and purchased for departments everything from office furniture to Dells and Macs.
Bought an Asus laptop last week. Hey! I really like Windows 8! Gave away my mid-2012 MBP. Desktop is Vista (which I also like).
Hope to learn a little every day from you experts about Microsoft's latest OS implementations.

Yep welcome Hickory I have mine set up now with the 7 style start desktop and can switch between the panels and it so easily. The panels I must admit I don't like the clutter alright for apps I suppose - I just like the speed and free apps.
In a way a bit like having a dual boot LOL!!
