Hi, I'm Brian and new here. I'm the fool using Win 8 as his main OS on a live system! Hope to pick up a lot of knowledge here and hopefully contribute too. I used to run The Vistaforum back in the day so hope this Forum is as successful and involving. This time round I'm just another bod though. No expertise in Win 8 as yet but a lot of experience generally and am happy to search for answers for those who don't have the time.

Welcome to Eight Forums Brian, always glad to get people willing to help.

I'm dual booting with Win7, but use Win8 almost all the time, it's been stable for me.

Thanks for the welcome! I had my first crash last night. The system just froze. I've not investigated yet but will look at event viewer for clues. Interestingly having to power-off to reboot, Win 8 then booted without the usual "windows closed unexpectedly do you want safe mode?" message.

My crash seemed due to:

Faulting application name: Settings.exe, version: 2010.1.0.95, time stamp: 0x4c4d4f24
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.2.8250.0, time stamp: 0x4f3f36c6
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Worryingly, settings.exe is sometimes identified with a Trojan. I'll see if TrendMicro, my antivurs, knows anything..

Hey guys, I haven't really browse through these forums yet, however i can tell right away that a lot of the members from Windows 7 are in here.

I don't see myself comming in here very often but, just wanted to say hi. I have a laptop Windows 7 and 8 side by side :)
Giving it a try.
Quick question can anyone PM me with a way to disable lock screen. I see no need for lock screen+password to finally get to my working area.
