A new Windows 8.1 user that really likes it

Hello,


I'm retired. I worked in the computer industry for over 30-years, starting in 1983 in the Silicon Valley. I currently live in Sacramento, California.


I'm a new Windows 8.1 user. I just bought a new Dell 17R laptop and it came with this new version of windows.
It was delivered August 21 with Windows 8.1 64-bit OEM already installed. I really like Windows 8.1. There are some new things to learn, but also a lot of old familiar things.


My previous laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1545, bought in 2009 came with Windows Vista that was upgraded to Windows 7. It's screen recently went out, so I bought the new Windows 8.1 laptop.


I have been using Windows since 1989, Windows 3.0. I use to install it and maintain it on our companies office computers. I installed and maintained Windows on computers all the way through Windows Vista. I actually started out using MS DOS 2.11 in 1984 on an 8086 computer with a green screen. I know, I'm ancient. ;-).


I've also assembled my own desktop computers in the past, but now I like using a laptop.


Anyway I'm happy I found this great forum and so many friendly and helpful people with great advice. Thanks for providing this great place.

Somewhat rare for someone of your caliber to like 8.x. A majority of IT Pros and the press pounced on MS for creating such a "fiasco". I, for one, think it's the greatest OS they've released to date.
