Solved Watermark Removal Anyone???

Anyone any clues about doing that? I used one fix I found online but that only removed the build number and not the huge Microsoft Confidential blurb.

Edit: This thread was about the Developer Preview but has been solved for the Consumer Preview, see post #28.

You don't get the "huge Microsoft Confidential blurb" in the Dev Preview version, unless you've disabled the immersive/Metro UI with one of the hacks to do so.

Ah....well maybe I'll try reinstating the Metro thingies and try to cope with occasionally getting stuck on certain screens with no clear way out.

Thanks

I just spotted that and thanks for posting it. I seem to still have a remnant on the regular desktop.

I have Applied no hacks, but I've got the Microsoft Confidential notice.

Must be something else then. I only get it if I apply a Metro disable hack.

What's with the background blue color there, is that a custom background, or..?

Why do people want to remove that watermark? its a buggy build of an old OS pretending to be new, sooner it expires the better.

Here's the manual way to get rid of most of the watermarks:

Windows\System32\en-US\shell32.dll.mui
Take ownership and control
Open in Resource Hacker
String table Resource 2070
Delete lines 33108, 33109, 33118
Compile
Save
Reboot
Run > mcbuilder
Reboot

Has anyone found how to get rid of the last bit? Mine leaves ".b32615d501a711d0" but it seems to be different for every system.

Hi all,
In windows 8, if you remove its watermarks, you won't see "move file, folder process"
You can check it to see that "invisible copy box for your windows" and you can't stop, x with you copying process
thanks

I don't have any problems with copy or move, or any other problems that came after removing the watermark. My only "problem" is how to get rid of the last little bit of the watermark.

Hi jbecerril,
If you can't take ownership, usually it's because you're not running an Administrator account.
In Windows Developer Preview, right click on a file > Properties > Security tab > Advanced button: Click on the blue "Change" button. Then type "Administrators", or your user name. Then click on the Check Names button (it will change to add computer name) Click OK. Click OK again. Now click on the Edit button. Highlight "Administrators" or "Users" in the list. Tick the "Full Control" box in the bottom pane. OK.

Resource Hacker is a free little program for editing system files.
