Solved Want to Download Upgrade Deal Without Installing
Hi All:
I've read the pertinent tutorials. I simply want to get a Win8 Pro product key and ISO (64-bit) without running the upgrade assistant and installing files on a computer suitable for use in obtaining the 64-bit version but upon which I probably will not want to install Win8.

Hello znod,
You can run the
Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant to purchase and download Windows 8 Upgrade and product key without having to install the Windows 8 upgrade on the same computer, or leave any installation files on it.
Here's how:
1. Once you get to step 17 in the tutorial below, do step 19 to get the ISO file to use to install Windows 8 with later and where you like.
2. Next, delete the
hidden %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup and
C:\ESD folders to get rid of the downloaded installation files.
3. Next, delete the
Install Windows shortcut on your desktop.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks much Shawn. Yes, I figured out that I didn't have to install Win8, but I wasn't sure how to deal with the "
hidden %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup and
C:\ESD folders to get rid of the downloaded installation files." I had hoped that I could just avoid installing them. But, deleting them should work fine. I hope more than one individual can be be awarded :thumb: --not that you really need any.

Thanks Shawn. I'm not sure any upgrade install I would do would be very serious. I wanted an upgrade ISO/Disc to experiment with. Well, I guess doing an upgrade for that reason would be sort of serious. Maybe seriously deranged?
I am curious about one thing. I started up my Win8 32-bit installation (on a machine capable of 64 bit) with my 64-bit upgrade DVD. It looked like I could do all the repair jobs using the disc. I didn't try any though. What do you think? Not that it matters, but I did the 32-bit installation with a full install DVD.

The issue would come when you tried to do a startup repair, system restore, refresh, reset, or system image recovery with a 64-bit disc on a 32-bit installation.
The disc really needs to be the same 32-bit or 64-bit as the installation.

Thanks, I would have thought that what you say is true. Just thought unrealistically that repair support for both 32 bit and 64 bit might have been built in. If I had tried, for example, a refresh or a restore, would I have been warned/denied--or would my system have been allowed to be trashed?

Nar, you would most likely have gotten the usual "this (64-bit) does not apply to a 32-bit system" type failure message when it checked your system before actually running when you tried to use it.
