Solved Want to clean install 64-bit Windows 8 over 32-bit Vista

Should be a Windows 8 Pro ISO. That's what the e-mail states I ordered, and have a product key for. In the ESD folder under Windows/efi/boot there is a bootx64efi file.. Does this mean it's a 64-bit download?

If it's safe to delete the ESD folder I'll try that.

What determines if it's a 64-bit or 32-bit ISO will be the computer you download it from. See warning under step 1 below.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-upgrade-iso-download-create.html

What did it tell you for what it's download at step 4 in the same tutorial above?

Hey,

It was definitely downloaded on a 64-bit OS. I now can't get to step 4 in that tutorial, because it immediately jumps to step 7. I am going to have to delete the ESD folder (or ESD/Windows folder??) and try and run the Windows8-Setup.exe, to see if it lets me enter my product key again.

Yes, delete the two hidden folders below if you wanted to start completely over.

C:\ESD

and

Well I decided to do the download tonight. I deleted the folders and ran the setup. This time it let me enter the product key and download. The download stated it was a pro download at step 4 - just like in the picture, but the download is once again 2.63 GB?

This is a Windows 7 Home Premium OEM. It states 64-bit in the Control Panel. Where am I going wrong

You're not doing anything wrong. It's just that my 64-bit was a bit larger, but since it says you got a 64-bit Pro, then you are good to go to with it. :)

No changes since day one.

Getting kinda close to January 31st, 2012.
So today I purchased and downloaded a copy of Win 8 Pro for my wife's computer.

There was no need to download, for the file size of the ISO I burned today is
the exact same file size as the one I burned on October 26th 2012.

2,896,756,736 bytes.

You can use the same installation disk on 100 computers.
Just make sure you have 100 valid Products keys to enter
when prompted for such on each of those installations.

And if the ESD folder still resides on your HDD, you can always install from there also.

Right,

So I do have a question. I performed the install, but the customization option seemed to pass me by, and most strangely - when I went into System, Windows was already activated?? No need to do either of the steps at the end of the tutorial to activate?

I'm a little disconcerted.

I installed it as stated in the tutorial listed in the quotes in my 1st post - for Clean Install using an upgrade. I installed it over my Vista 32-bit OEM OS. SO I selected delete and then installed onto the unallocated space.

When I booted from the disk in BIOS to start the setup, after stage 9 in this guide, the system restarted and tried to start the install from scratch again. So, I set the boot device priority back the Harddrive and this did a getting Devices ready page, rebooted itself and voila shiny Windows?

Nothing is ever as it should be when I do these things..

If you used a Microsoft account, it most likely pulled the info from it on the MS servers.

Nope. Did is as a Local account. Everything seems to be working fine though :D

I haven't even installed any drivers and everything seems to be working? I'm using an Asus P5N-E SLI board - which is pretty old, so the nforce 650i drivers seem to be for W7 64-bit.. I might install them and see what happens..

Thanks for all your help by the way!

Well, great news though, and you're most welcome.

Just be sure to create restore points before doing anything that you may wish to undo with a system restore if needed. ;)
