Solved W8 usable on older notebook?

I have an older notebook that I may put W8 on to play with it..
Dell Inspiron 1520..

It does not have a touchscreen..

Will W8 be usable without a touchscreen?

32-bit or 64-bit?

I have 4G of ram.. May put in a SSD and let my daughter use it..

I'm using 32bit as I only have 2Gb ram - although my PC is 64-bit capable. Using Dual-boot via VHD.

Will backup entire drive and scratch Vista for the CP, although considering a bigger drive....

I installed it, and I must say I am impressed with it's performance on such an old machine..

I basically gave the notebook to my daughter who is 13 and she took right to it.. She loves the metro interface!

Once I showed her how to add/remove tiles from the start page, she immediately customized it for her..

She isn't into the social stuff so much, but loved the downloadble games and apps from the Marketplace..

For new users, I'd say this is a home run!

Got my old Inspiron 1501 running WCP native now (after one re-load!) - iTunes is fast & recognizes my iPod etc etc - looking good. Off to load office 2010....

My Dell Latitude D620 was working fine the past few days with 8 and then the screen starting acting nuts-o. I tried everything I could think of, including installing 7 back on there, which I did, and the screen is back to normal. I don't know if that's because of the OS or if the laptop is about to die. You'd think they'd last more than 5 years.

Just a follow-up - definitely a bum laptop for me, not an 8 problem.
