Could someone help me please? I have an ASUS x202e notebook PC that boots to the "Preparing Automatic Repair". After sitting on the pretty blue screen for about a minute (or so) it goes straight to the Choose an Option screen. I have tried everything under the sun including chkdsk c:\r and sfc /scannow, bootrec.exe options from RE cmd prompt. There are no system restore points . When attempting to Refresh or Reset it goes through the motions yet fails and say "Unable to Refresh/Reset the PC".

Unfortunately, the owner (my son) did not create the Recovery USB. sigh....... kids!

I am in the process of trying to access the Recovery Partiton through the cmd prompt. this is what I have done so far:

There is tons more in the cmd prompt window. I am hoping someone is familiar enough with the rest of it so I won't have to keep typing.

Any help is most appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna :)

Hi axe0,

Thank you so much for coming to my aide.

Oh shoot! I have a W8 64-bit RC .iso in my dropbox. Wasn't sure how (or if) I could utilize that in a situation such as this. I use it for the purpose of accessing unbootables for malware removal. Couple of silly questions if I may.....

Do I need to download another program such as Rufus to create a bootable USB?

How would I proceed once I get the recovery .iso downloaded to the USB or should I just reply back once I have the .iso downloaded onto the USB so you could provide further instructions?

Again thank you!

Donna :)

The .iso file can be mounted using a program, or you can just unpack it on a USB, best is to use an empty USB.
Once you have created a bootable recovery USB, shut the notebook down (or restart) and before windows loads press the key that gives you the boot options and choose the USB.
It might take a few minutes before the recovery starts.
