Hi guys,

Have W8 up and running just fine on Virtualbox except for the screen resolution. I had the same problem when i was virtualising W7 but that was easily fixed by installing the Virtualbox Guest Additions. Unfortunately, on W8, the install of this fails mid-way through for me and i'd like to know, is it just my machine or is there no support for this package? and, has anyone else found a workaround to this problem

thanks

If you are using Virtualbox 4.1.4 you should be able to install the WDDM driver without entering in safe mode. I tried the basic 3d driver but it also fails midway in safe mode.

Note that you will get it working but the WDDM of virtualbox is highly experimental and many programs don't work well but you can go fullscreen and use aero. Without 3d or with basic 3d it fails for me too.

To get it working activate 3d functionality in Virtualbox, then in the win8 guest install the additions => choose 3d: when it asks you to install basic 3d click on no after restarting the guest you should be able to scale the screen or change the resolution.

If someone made it work with basic 3d in virtualbox it would be nice to hear it.

thanks
