Video card problems? Or is it something else?

I am having a problem that whenever I start an app that (I think) needs hardware acceleration it fails to start. What I mean by this is that it will show the "intro" and then the screen changes to the app background color but blank.

The apps include but are not limited to:
PaintPlay
MoPod
Labryinth
Tile Puzzle
Copper
BitBox
Word Hunt
...

The only error that I am getting is from Copper. I think that this started when I installed the ATI X1400 drivers and software, none of the software is running but it was able to set my resolution to 1920x1080 (I prefer 1440x900 but it wouldn't do that much!). The other problem which I think is the same is that when I go to the start menu half of the time it will be blank until I go to "Search" the apps and from there go to the start menu.

My specs are below.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Sorry, I forgot to include the error!

And my screen resolution is 1920x1200 not 1920x1080.

Hi Love8,

The problem that I have seen with some of the older imbedded video cards on the older laptops, is that AMD/ATI is not really keeping up to date with the drivers. I would suggest uninstalling the drivers using driversweeper which I have included the link below;

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Once that is done then run Windows update to see if the update shows a better solution to the drivers. I have seen reports that this seems to be working better than running the drivers included with the laptop or updating through the manufactures site.

Good luck and keep us informed :-)

I don't care about the video drivers because they are pretty much useless Windows does the same thing except that Windows won't let me use my full monitor resolution. I will try your solution and update it here.

I tried it and restarted as required then my resolution went to 600x800 so I reset it to 1600x1200 (the only one that was better) and retried, and they were having the same error, so I restored via Driver Sweeper and now it says that it is using the ATI drivers but my resolution is stuck at 1600x1200.

Also try messing with the ccc settings or choosing a basic windows theme instead of aero.

CCC won't run but the drivers were doing fine, I had to use the dell ATI drivers because ATI's detected that it was not Windows 7 even when I ran them in compatibility mode.

@Capt.Jack Sparrow windows update can't seem to find anything.

Try to install and older version of driver

Same here peeps, I'm running here in circles... I'm with my ATI HD4650 installed as 'engineering sample' in the driver tab. If I change the driver will it work? Even Win8 telling me that his driver is the 'up to date' driver ?

It's running fine over the last 30 minutes... but did anyone have trouble with this ?

Hello Atlas, Its easier and quicker if you start a new post when you have a question, There is no reason why you cannot download and install the newest drivers for your card, I did :) Of course I cannot give you a guarantee that it will work but I see no reason why not.
