I had to do a Factory Reset of my Surface RT & all went well. But when I open the Charms Bar>Settings>Change PC settings>Accounts>Your account; on the right side I see this message "You need to verify your identity on this PC" along w/a 'Verify' link. When I tap 'Verify', I get a 'security code' page w/some strange number I don't remember ever typing in before: "Text (***) ***-**90".

What does this verify stuff mean & how do I get rid of the "You need to verify your identity on this PC" message along w/the 'Verify' link? Is there a registry edit I can make?

(***) ***-**90 is not my number. I don't know why this number is on my tablet nor did I ever enter it myself.
So how do I "verify" my tablet, which I should not have to do in the 1st place.

I'm not sure this worked for me.
This is what I did...
1. Opened the Charms Bar>Settings>Change PC settings>Accounts>Your account
2. Tapped the Verify link & saw this page...
Screenshot (3).png

3. I don't know where this number came from, so I tapped on it & saw this...
Screenshot (4).png

4. I selected the "I don't have any of these" & tapped "next".
5. I then had to go online to change my security info & after all that was done, I received this...
Screenshot (5).png

Did I do this correctly?
I didn't get a new code when I checked the email.

That looks like they have put you in limbo to me, I haven't had that happen but from reading your last pic it looks like they are making you wait before accepting your new info.

Didn't you say you got that from your Dad? I wonder if that's his number?

You can cancel that request at the bottom there in your last pic if you want to wait and find out if your Dad knows where that number came from.

I checked w/him & it's not a number he remembers ever putting in. I'm just going to wait. I can still log onto my tablet & it's running fine. Thank you for all the help, I'll update this when/if I get an email from Microsoft.

OK, yeah if it's still letting you in, might as well just wait.

You're welcome.
