Hi there. I've got three PCs where I am using a MS account. They all have the same user account name (first few letters of my email). I've got another PC (running Win 8.1) with a local account, which is my regular name. What will happen to it if I switch to a MS account. Will Windows overwrite my user file folder with a different name, or will I be allowed to keep my former (local) user file name. I don't worry about the login. I'm concerned about my user file name, which contains documents, downloads, etc. Thanks for your help.

It creates a new profile and doesn't touch your files it creates folders for new user. You will have to login again with local account to read your files

Thank you, Samuria, for your input. That seems like very complex to login again with the local account. I have never experienced that before. Doesn't the File Explorer allow you to open the former files?

The permission will be set to the other user it's simplest to copy files to a folder outside the profile. Failing that you would have to give rights to the other user to all your folders
