Have heard, that if you upgrade to win 8, and then at a later date you upgrade your motherboard, then you will require a new copy of win 8 upgrade.

Only if it's an OEM copy. A retail copy can be like Windows 7.

According to the article, you will have the option to download either Win 8 or Win 8 Pro. It goes on to say that for the average user (which would be me) there isn't much in Pro that would be needed. However, if you have the space on your computer, why not get the Pro?

If cost isn't a factor, going with a lesser version isn't necessary. However, they'll be priced differently, so knowing this may make the choice for some people. I still contend that most regular folks get new software with new hardware, and as always this will only matter to the IT/tech crowd .
