Why not wait 2-3 mos when Win10 will be out and its a free upgrade. Dont bother wasting money on an OS that will be outdated in less than 6 months.

You'll need to download and ISO and create installation media You can run an upgrade install, but a clean install will be more trouble free. Your key can be used either way. If your win 7 is 32bit X86 and you'll want 8.1 to 64 bit X64 you will need to clean install. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/?filter[2]=Installation%20and%20Setup
