upgrade to windows 8.1

hi everyone

I am trying to upgrade to 8.1 and i have manually tried to download update KB2917499 which is missing in my updates, I have KB2871389 already installed.

When I try to download KB2917499 it tells me this (see attached) can anyone please help.

I still do not understand how to download 8.1, when I try to download it from the store it is telling me

WINDOWS 8.1 THIS APPLICATION WASN`T INSTALLED

how do I create my own installation media.

I have found how to create media, does this mean this will create a copy of windows 8.1 which i can install on my machine.

AS far as I am aware yes, don't forget you need to burn a image to a DVD or a USB flash drive.

hi everyone

I have now used create media to create a copy of windows 8.1, it has now finished downloading on to a flash drive and is saying that it is ready, but the problem is that it is saying that i need a PRODUCT KEY. Does this mean that i cannot use this
download of 8.1.

What are you upgrading from ?? windows 8 ?? windows 7 ??
There are several edition downloads - 8.1 - 8.1 Pro - 8.1 SL
the edition must match you key, otherwise it asks you to supply one

I am upgrading from windows 8 and want to upgrade to windows 8.1 which is meant to be a free upgrade.
My computer will not let me get this free upgrade from the store that is why I was advised to use this method.
The 8.1 downloaded ok on to my flash drive and no errors came up.
Is this copy on my flash drive no good to me unless i have a product key.
Do i need a product key for my windows 8 already on my computer or do i need key for windows 8.1, if so how do i get one.

I agree with Kyhi..

The KB2917499 was probably a different architecture thus the error, but it's best to upgrade from an iso after confirming which edition of Windows 8 the key belongs to. You can then install windows 8.1 with that key.

Did you select "Windows 8.1" from the list when you downloaded? If that is correct it should not prompt for a key - but try entering the key anyway and see what it says.

BTW delete the images showing your key - we just needed the edition.

what does OEM key and OEM edition mean
