Upgrade Install to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

This is a "Thank you" message to Brink and others who posted HELP messages to me. As many of you have seen - I have been posting several messages saying that I was unable to get win 8.1 to be loaded without reverting back to win 8,.

Yesterday and last night I used the following procedures to get my win 8 upgraded back to win 8.1, and it all loaded the new win 8.1 data while I was sleeping.. so when I got up this morning, and walked to this Acer 4-in-1 desktop it was ready for me to tell it which Wireless connection wished to connect. I made the selection, and it allowed the correction and then loaded the new win 8.1 update it had downloaded during last night.

The desktop continued, and eventually upgraded all to win 8.1 and allowed a reboot to this screen (below) with this win 8.1

win 8-1-thor-pc.jpg
Thanks for all it it is working now, and I have have doing all sorts of stuff with my newly load win 8.1 ,
Still checking it and loading more apps and stuff. All be safe and thanks.

Good morning to all. My Win 8.1 is still working fine and I have rebooted several times, and done many other things.

Now I need to be able to see the Windows Icon on right side of the screen in order to upgrade to win 10, and so far I have not been able to see it. So am still looking for info about upgrade to win 10.

Thanks to all. Cliff

Came across an HP All In One running Windows 8. The store app has expired. I want to at least move this machine to Windows 8.1.

It has the license key in the BIOS.

I downloaded the ISO for 8.1 from Heidoc.

If I mount this ISO and run setup will it upgrade this device. I assume product key will be auto inserted.

Hello Ken, :)

If the embedded key is for the same edition the ISO is for, then it should automatically be detected by Windows Setup and used.

Thanks Brink

The Heidoc just had one download for 8.1/8.1 Pro.

Do you think this in place upgrade will be successful and will activate.

It should, but if it doesn't for some reason, you can just change your product key number to enter the correct one instead to activate with.

Well it zipped by asking for any product keys, went straight into the meat of the upgrade.

So for those that follow. No issues on this Pavilion 23. I used the iso burnt onto a DVD. Ran Setup from DVD. One hour later it is on the desktop. Haven't tried a reboot yet, just checking for updates. Product is activated. Thanks Brink for the support.

Spoke to soon. It will not do updates or Defender files. I ran trouble shooter, fix a problem and Defender Update ran successful. Updates just scan and scan. Member erpster suggested in another thread to install KB3172614. Downloaded and it just says searching for updates on this computer. Trouble shooter says "One of more Windows Update components are configured incorrectly.

The mysteries of Windows.

I used Macrium to restore 8.0 and then let the machine sit over night. The restore was a total restore, all partitions that were on HDD were overwritten.

I restored the power option to sleep in 30 minutes. Maintenance set for 3:00 am.

This morning I woke the machine up and the machine had downloaded 8.1 and was awaiting a Restart. ???? I did not initiate a download and the image I restored with Macrium knew nothing of 8.1.

I okayed restart and crossed my fingers. Update process was a success. I then tried looking for updates. 34 found and installed. Tried updates again and it found 10 more.

Will have to poke around some more to see if it is really working but it appears fine.
