Solved Updates stopped WinLiveMail

After installing all the latest updates on Win8Pro OEM loaded from retail installation disk, WinLiveMail stopped working on desktop.

Finally narrowed it down to three security updates for Net Framework 3 & 4.

KB 2729462 Security update Netframework 3.5
KB 2737084 Security update Netframework 4.5
KB 2769166 Update for Netframework 3.5

Problem is I need the updates for security but also haven't found an email client as good as WinLiveMail.

it works fine on mine,, (on two pcs I have it on running Windows 8 Pro) have you tried uninstalling it and re installing it? and what version WLM do you have? do you have the latest one 2012?

Thanks for the input robin9. You're a legend. Had tried uninstall/reinstall but was using 2011 WLM.

Uninstalled 2011 with Revo Uninstaller which cleans registry as well and did fresh install with 2012 WLM and when ran updates did not need any security updates, only NetFramework 3.5 update KB 2769166.

You've made my day, week, month ... make it my whole year!

You may be a hero.

I much prefer WLM. and will try to do a clean install. I did download the 2012 version but it stopped working a day later.

I will look into doing a VERY CLEAN un-install of whatever WLM is there then try again.

There may be many people who thank you.

I did as you advised in your posting.


But why I should have to do MORE un-install activities (Regedit etc) when I have run the Official UN-install defeats me.. the important thing is it worked.

I have Windows Live Mail back and it seems to be working fine!

I have had to go around and UN-link all the other attempts to link all my email accounts, Hotmail Gmail etc as I was duplicating.

I will use it for a few days. and re-post if it goes unstable again.
