Solved Unusual W8.0 to 8.1 behavior, upgrades to 8.1 then reverts back to 8.0?

I succeeded in doing an In-place Upgrade from W7-Pro-64 to W8.0-Pro-64.
Then, the Free Upgrade to W8.1-Pro-64.
I used a new 750GB MBR drive to Clone to, it worked just fine.
I did this as a 'test' to insure things would go well without disturbing what other Drives I have.
Once it went so well, I painstakingly moved all my data from a 4TB Drive I have.
The 4TB Drive was initialized as a GPT Drive after I first bought it.
Once it was empty, I Quick Formatted it and initialized it as a GPT Drive again.
I redid the Clone but got stuck when the Acronis WD Version would not go from MBR to GPT.
I went with the only option I could find and that was to initialize as an MBR 2TB Drive.
I thought that after the completed Clone to W8.1-Pro-64, I could somehow convert it to GPT.
So with a 2TB formatted capacity 4TB Drive I began the Upgrade to W8.1-Pro-64.
The Upgrade got to 30% and then appeared to get hung up and would not proceed.
I let it run there for at least eight hours and then restarted the PC via the On Off Switch.
The Upgrade program came back up and decided to Revert back to W-8.0-Pro-64, which it did.
I tried two additional times but each time with the same result.
Then I learned that two KB-??????? updates needed to be applied before the Upgrade.
I did that and tried again.
This time the Upgrade got to 90% before it hung up.
Again I did the PC restart via the On-Off Switch.
The Upgrade reverted back.
Then on the Start Menu appeared an option to "shut down and restart applying updates."
I tried it twice now, the same result, an install followed by a long revert.

Any feedback or ideas would be appreciated.
I could live with the Drive at 2TB's vs. 4TB's but I want and need W8.1.

Could you please add, which Windows 8.1 media you used? Like, for example, IR5_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV9 or something else.

Excuse, but could you give more details? Windows 8.1 can be downloaded in different ways:
1) As a click-to-run upgrade of Windows 8 from Microsoft Store
2) As a disc image (ISO file) from Microsoft website
3) Directly from MS server using the Windows and Office download tool
Every way has some advantages and (maybe) disadvantages. MS store download requires preliminary installation of a lot of Windows 8 updates. Direct download is better and allows to choose a lot of languages, but may be slightly outdated. Finally, HeiDoc tool may have fewer options, but should give the most recent ISO image. Both last images should not ask for a lot of Windows 8 updates before installation. (In previous post I mentioned a name of one of retail ISO images, but apparently it's not your case.)

Frustration!
I tried the Directly option and looped for about two days.
Downloading, installing, reverting!!!
I am going to take a break from this and reevaluate what I am doing and 'why'.
I know I do not want to go to 10.
8.1 looks so inviting but tough to get too.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have not been able to re-create the symptoms my System had been experiencing. I want to close this Thread until I can re-create what my System had been doing.

I finally got 8.1 installed on my PC, thank you Jesus!
I now want to convert the 2TB MBR partition it occupies to GPT.
Other than the Operating System, there is no data on the drive.
Is it possible to simply convert my MBR Drive to GPT.
The physical Drive is 3TB of which 2TD is used as MBR.
Thank you in advance for your feedback / advice.
