I have two days left on my Norton trial, that came with my PC.
I'm thinking about uninstalling it and turning on Windows Defender along with
Malwarebytes Pro...would this be sufficient protection?
Others on the forum like Kaspersky as a paid antivirus.
I've been searching through past Posts, but I'm starting to get more confused.
Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Get rid of Norton and use Windows Defender. I have Malwarebytes Pro and highly recommend it. Install MVPS Hosts as well and you will not need to worry about anything. See here for great info and a link to MVPS Hosts: So how did I get infected in the first place? - Malwarebytes Forum.

Also, configure IE10 so that ActiveX Filtering is on, override cookie handling so that you block first and third party cookies, and only allow session cookies, turn on pop-up blocker, enable protected mode and turn on tracking protection.

Am I missing something here, I haven't heard of Windows Defender for years, aren't we running Microsoft Security Essentials. That's all I run and haven't had a Virus for years. Although if people are going on porn sites and gambling sites they might need a bit of extra protection.

What you miss is that the Windows 8 version of MSE is Defender. No more MSE. And I caught a couple of nasties when using MSE - and not on porn or gambling sites. Norton is the best in my book - but that is my book.

Just goes to show how painless Defender is, I didn't even know it was there. Just like Windows 8 all over, easy painless and so secure you don't even notice it.

Odd, even people who don't know whether Defender is good or not, know that it's there.

I use the paid versions of :

Norton--Norton & Avast clashed so I trained Norton to ignore Avast.

AdAware
Avast
& free-
Spybot S&D

Between them, I get no viruses or other bad things.

I've had MSE catch a few things along the way and it's also received some fairly good reviews.

I used Avast years ago and got a ton of viruses, went onto Kapersky, then Zone Alarm and then onto MSE. No viruses for a very long time.

And now I'm on Defender, thanks Ray.

I only hope you make enough images for the day you discover reality.

I just did some research and Windows Defender is nothing more than Microsoft Security Essentials bundled into Windows 8, where MSE was a separate download. It also directly incorporates the Smart Screen Filter, which is already resident in IE if you enable it.

If you want to pay, you are much better off with Norton than with Kaspersky. But if you want to go with Defender, you have to uninstall Norton with their uninstaller - else you will be in trouble. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

PS: I think you will be OK with Defender and MWB

Would there be any advantage to using Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove Norton ?
Revo will not do the job. I don't know the details but I had a bad experience when I did not use the Norton tool - and I use Revo too.
