What the heck, I have excellent backup tools and options. Installed all 35 without a hitch but I think I will wait a few days before I would call it a complete success. Had no file or component store corruptions prior so it will be interesting to see where I am in a few days.

Funny you mention that. I installed all the optional updates on both my desktop and laptop and started seeing some issues after several days. I ended up imaging my desktop back to just prior to the big batch of optional updates around 4/21 to get clean again and when I checked for updates, the big batch was gone and only a few came up which I installed without any errors. My laptop which is about a year newer and came with 8.1 seemed to digest them all better. Some minor issues but handled with SFC/DISM tools. My desktop came with 8.0 and I have upgraded/updated along the way. In the future I will use much greater caution before installing optional updates.

As said to many read support info, does not pertain to you, hold off on them. Yes, some have issues, some do not from optional. Reasons why they are called optional not important, most just install them without reading about them, cause they are there and from MS. But why did ones i did not install disappear is the mystery question.

For 30 years of more I have always installed all Windows supplied updates including optional without giving it any thought and never experienced problems like I have had recently but I think my recent experience has been exclusive to the optional updates. I will use a different approach in the future at least with any optional updates. The good old days are gone.

Yes, i believe i did so back in days of Windows 7 and before. We should at least know what we are installing, before just installing it is my point. Would you install a software without knowing about it first. As reasons for posting this by Brink is explaining what these important updates are.

Think maybe right, caught one so far was a optional as recommended one today, reasons why some received less, because they did the optional ones from the past.

My hidden "optional" updates from prior update Tuesdays have now changed to "recommended" updates.....still hidden tho. It's getting more curious each update Tuesday! Microsoft, you're succeeding in confusing me! (Not too difficult to do tho - lol)

Who knows. Maybe the status changes because to install one update you need another preinstalled as a prerequisite.
