unable to update

I just reinstalled windows 8 on my Asus laptop and i'm sever irritated. I have one critical update but everytime i execute it , it reboots my computer and i'm met with a smoky black screen with no cursor. I've thought of going to site and seeking help but they couldn't even help me diagnose the battery. I had to do that myself. Iron i know. Does this mean i have to reinstall windows again? would be nice to just sit and chill after losing everything.

KB number of the problem update ?

Is this just one remaining update that won't install ? i.e. is Windows up to date apart from this.

How did you reinstall Windows ? Recovery partition, official Windows DVD or something else ?
