Unable to find extender!!!

Hello,


I have spent countless hrs attempting to fix this problem, only to hit dead end after dead end. I have a xbox that I have used (successfully, for about a year) as an extender for WMC 8. Im not sure what I did, but I am now unable to connect to my HTPC running win 8.1 pro. I have tried everything that even sniffs of a solution but I still get the error "unable to find extender". I can use the xbox to watch Hulu, Netflix but no WMC. My PC sees my xbox, however when I try to "test PC connection" thru the xbox System Settings/Network Settings/Test PC Connection I get, "network connected" - OK, then "PC Not Listed". I cant access my PC from the xbox "video player" either.
Ive tried all the popular fixes, turned off firewall, enabled extender services -- only to have them mysteriously disabled as soon as I attempt the extender setup process. Same mysterious disabling of the "Media Center Extenders" checked box in the "Allowed apps to communicate through Windows Firewall". Ive addressed all the sharing issues I can find, still nothing.


Is there some log that I can post so one of you (much smarter) troubleshooters can divine my problem? :cry:

I had a similar experience with Windows 8.1 Pro w/Media Center and my Xbox 360 extender after the Windows 8.1 Update was installed a while back. Here's what should work. Open Devices & Printers on your pc and right-click on your Xbox 360 extender and click on uninstall and restart your pc. After your pc restarts, disable your antivirus software, turn on your Xbox, go to my app's and click on Windows Media Center. It won't find it and will ask if you want to test your connection or setup a new one. Choose to setup a new one.Now on your pc, open Windows Media Center and click on add extender. Enter the code the Xbox's Windows Media Center app gives you and let it reset everything up again. Now try your extender. It should be working now. If it is, reenable your antivirus software and then reopen Windows Media Center on your Xbox.Some aftermarket antivirus/firewalls/internet security suites are weird with extenders and will keep them from working.

Yet another dead end...:mad::cry:
 
Check your media sharing settings. Open the Control Panel. Type 'media' in the upper right search box.

The first entry should be Network and Sharing Center. Under that is a link for Media Streaming. Click on it and see if your XBOX is listed and enabled.
 
I had the same problem. I had my xbox on my router and then everything else on a hub and it worked fine then one day it just stopped. After working on it for days I moved it to the same hub and it worked again. Its very strange because it saw all my other computers when it was on the router. I dont know your setup but this worked for me. I hope you get it worked out before you go crazy.

A lot of it has to do with the recent 8.1 Update and 3rd part security software. My laptop running regular 8.1 Update x64 can see my desktop pc running 8.1 Pro w/Media Center Update x64's HomeGroup & Password, but can't join it. Everything Bitdefender's support has had me try, has failed. After a month off dealing with their support and no solution. I gave up and just copied all my multimedia files onto my laptops external hd. I can't ditch Bitdefender now as I still have over a year left on my subscription.
