I am unable to boot into windows due to a corrupted registry.

Somehow the system file is corrupt.

I tried repairing it said that the drive where Windows was is locked. How do I unlock it?

I tried sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows

It says Windows Resource Protection could not complete the requested operation.

Fortunately bootrec is able to find my Windows installation. But cannot access it.

Is there any way I can repair my OS without a full reinstall? I dont want to lose any data.

Hi sreyan32,

SFC, System File Checker, uses the registry to check whether or not protected system files are corrupted. In your situation there are a few reasons why it won't help, 1 it isn't a file related problem SFC deals with, 2 SFC uses the COMPONENTS hive to check for corruption.

Is there any chance you have a backup of your registry, possibly via a registry cleaner, or a system backup? That would be the easiest route to take.
