The screenshots do not help your blind student but I will add them here just to be sure. Here we go, it's a pleasant challenge to try to reply in a way which could also be possible to understand by someone unable to see, with a help of a screen reader
.
You need to download and install
Windows Phone 8.1 emulators from Windows Dev Center:
https://dev.windows.com/en-US/downloads. Scroll down the page a bit, you'll find the correct download links at left under the title
Other download options in section
Windows Phone 8.1 Emulators.
You need to have any edition of
Visual Studio installed and
Hyper-V enabled and set up with a working external virtual switch (ask if you need help in this) before installing the emulators.
When the emulators are installed you can see only one of them in Hyper-V, the basic
WVGA 4 inch 512 MB emulator. The rest of them will be added to Hyper-V as soon as you use them to debug your application in Visual Studio.
The emulators will also add an internal network switch to your Hyper-V setup, Debugging an application in an emulator will require both the external switch and this internal switch added by emulator installation.
Now start the Visual Studio. When you are ready to debug, in other words ready to build and deploy the app to the emulator and run it, select any of the Windows Phone emulators from the list in the toolbar under the menu bar. Let the
CPU selection be the default
Any CPU. By default the basic
WVGA 4 inch 512 MB emulator is selected, being roughly the same than the smallest Lumia 500-series phones. When you have selected your emulator press
F5 to start debugging, alternatively click the small green arrowhead in front of the emulator name or open the
Debug menu and select
Start Debugging. Stop debugging with
SHIFT + F5, from
Debug menu selecting
Stop Debugging, or by closing the emulator.
Notice that starting the emulator first time can take a long time, even up to three or four minutes depending on your hardware before the emulator has fully booted and you can see Visual Studio starting to deploy your application.
That's it for now, please ask if you need more information.
