The screenshots do not help your blind student but I will add them here just to be sure. Here we go, it's a pleasant challenge to try to reply in a way which could also be possible to understand by someone unable to see, with a help of a screen reader :).

You need to download and install Windows Phone 8.1 emulators from Windows Dev Center: https://dev.windows.com/en-US/downloads. Scroll down the page a bit, you'll find the correct download links at left under the title Other download options in section Windows Phone 8.1 Emulators.

2015-05-22_16h15_04.png

You need to have any edition of Visual Studio installed and Hyper-V enabled and set up with a working external virtual switch (ask if you need help in this) before installing the emulators.

When the emulators are installed you can see only one of them in Hyper-V, the basic WVGA 4 inch 512 MB emulator. The rest of them will be added to Hyper-V as soon as you use them to debug your application in Visual Studio.

2015-05-22_16h16_33.png

The emulators will also add an internal network switch to your Hyper-V setup, Debugging an application in an emulator will require both the external switch and this internal switch added by emulator installation.

Now start the Visual Studio. When you are ready to debug, in other words ready to build and deploy the app to the emulator and run it, select any of the Windows Phone emulators from the list in the toolbar under the menu bar. Let the CPU selection be the default Any CPU. By default the basic WVGA 4 inch 512 MB emulator is selected, being roughly the same than the smallest Lumia 500-series phones. When you have selected your emulator press F5 to start debugging, alternatively click the small green arrowhead in front of the emulator name or open the Debug menu and select Start Debugging. Stop debugging with SHIFT + F5, from Debug menu selecting Stop Debugging, or by closing the emulator.

2015-05-22_16h26_38.png

Notice that starting the emulator first time can take a long time, even up to three or four minutes depending on your hardware before the emulator has fully booted and you can see Visual Studio starting to deploy your application.

That's it for now, please ask if you need more information.

Kari

About enabling virtualization in BIOS, I am sorry but cannot help you there. Each manufacturer has a bit different BIOS. We might get some help for you in this matter if we knew the exact BIOS version. Please try to tell as much as you can, at least the make and model of your PC if it is a standard PC bought from a store, and the make and the model of the motherboard if it is self assembled.

About Hyper-V, check these two tutorials, they might be too difficult to read using a screen reader and contain a lot of screenshots which will not help you. Just ask for a clarification if there's something you don't understand in them:

Don't you worry about the pronunciation of my name :). It's written K, A, R, I and is a typical name in Finland where I come from. Both the K and the R are pronounced very hard, each letter pronounced short.

The error you get is most probably because the virtualization in BIOS is not enabled.

About the remote assistance you mentioned, it would not work. To get a remote connection to you requires Windows to be running and be connected to network, but as the BIOS setup is done and must be done before the Windows has even booted, there's no network connection and remote assistance is impossible.

I have asked if one of our members would know your laptop and its BIOS and could assist in enabling the virtualization.

Really, remote assistance regarding the BIOS settings, turning virtualization on in BIOS is out of the question, not because there's no volunteers but because your Jaws screen reader will not work when the machine is in BIOS settings. You can only use your screen reader after the Windows has booted but as I mentioned earlier, the BIOS settings must be edited before Windows even starts the boot procedure.

It would be in my opinion best to find someone to assist you there locally; even if we managed to talk you to the BIOS, your screen reader cannot function there.

hi. so what do i need to edit in the bios, or is it the win.ini file. and where could i download the windows 8.1 64 bit enterprise hyper visor, i need that, thanks. so how do i do that, or maybe might see if my lectuer could then maybe login in remotely.
no one near to help me out. maybe i think i could read the bios, downloaidng window-eyes for office, will ask, think you can set that up to read in the bios.l so, how to fix, and have not done a boot up, maybe it will then reset automtically. so just copying my data from my hard disk to my external drive, and doing a backup to my external drive, just in case. thanks.

I know this must be frustrating for you but really, there are absolutely no screen readers which can help you with BIOS. Here's an Wikipedia article for you about BIOS, let your screen reader read it to you: BIOS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. You enter the BIOS before Windows has even started the boot process, hence no Windows software will work. For instance on this laptop I am using to type this, I need to press the Escape key within 5 seconds after I power on the laptop to get to BIOS menu. On other computers the key needed can be for instance F2, Delete or Insert.

The error message you are getting hints that the virtualization feature is not enabled on your laptop. That must be done in BIOS and for that there simply is no screen reader help available, nor can anyone connect remotely to your laptop because at that point the laptop is not even connected to network.

I have requested help from other members, hoping to find another member who knows that exact laptop model and could give you precise instructions. Until that we just have to wait.

Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Pro editions already contain Hyper-V, no additional is required. You have set it up already correctly, judging by the fact that you already could launch it although with an error message as you have told us.

Using another virtualization program is also not a solution. For the first, also VirtualBox and VMware need the virtualization to be enabled, and for the second the Visual Studio Windows Phone emulators require the Hyper-V.

Hi Startreck:
Jaws will indeed not turn on till your within windows so unfortunately can not help you. Although reading the manual for your laptop it seems there is an app called desktop assit that might have a setting in it for your bios settings. If this app once opened has a button for system settings then on the left has a tab for CPU then it might let you turn on VT or vitalization. I have linked two pictures that show how this might work if you can get someone to help you look either remotely or locally.

Best of luck
