New Laptop was delivered today the only thing I've had time to do so far is take it out of the box, Fridays are never good days for me. Hopefully I'll be able to set it up and play later on, I'm looking forward to it so I can find out what all the fuss is about.

Today, I have made my VERY FIRST Windows 8 service sale!
It originally was just a call to help a friend of a friend to get a printer working with xp, but I talked to him a few months ago about upgrading to Windows 8. I happened to have my Windows 8 To Go drive on my person, booted into it on his PC, and he immediately loved it with the black background and cool blue tiles. I was impressed at how impressed he was with it! I was showing him around the apps and he just liked it all! He also loved the metro IE 10, as he commented on how it's just internet. He also commented on how it looks more touchy, which I was also impressed with. And this guy is FAR from being a tech head, his PC is running xp and he is also a line cook at a restaurant. He will have a freshly cleaned up and prettifed Windows PC running the Windows 8!

Also today, I showed off the Windows 8 again to a group of friends, which all really liked it. I again showed the apps, navigation, SkyDrive, IE, and speech commands. After that, I just let them play with a laptop I have with me that was also running my Windows 8 To Go drive. One on my friends, she took it and wanted to play around with it. I was actually impressed at how well she picked it up after just seeing me use it. I had to show her how to get the Charms bar open and told them that right clicking is done a lot for navigating around. And again, they're not tech heads. A couple recently graduated from high school and the other few are in college. They all would really like to upgrade to the Windows 8!

Whenever I work on anyone's PC, I clean the old hardened thermal compound from the CPU and the heatsink, then apply a proper amount of Actic Silver thermal compound the the temps always drop significantly. Especially in laptops, where the heatsink is marginal, at best. The cleanup/reapply of arctic slver always helps! Cleaning the dust from the innards and especially the heatsink fins and fan also helps!

I personally always cleanup the PC case inside and outside as well as the peripherals. A good, clean OS deserves a good, clean PC!

Yep, great minds think alike! I use KrudKutter to clean the case and compressed air to blow out dust from everywhere. I use tie wraps to clean and dress up the wiring and replace fans, as needed. When I finish with a PC, it looks and runs like new again. If someone is a smoker, then all bets are off because the tobacco smoke gets gummy, brown crap all over the components and it can't be properly cleaned. I just saw 2 PC's ruined by people smoking in front of them. ebery component was ruined because the comination of dust and stick tobacco residue got on everything. The PC's stunk and I cleaned them (or tried to) in the garage. After I finished, the dog wouldn't even come near me!

I use a solution of 50/50 filtered water and 99% rubbing alcohol, simple and cost effective and does a great job! I use on everything! It also works particularly well on laptop screens. Using straight up rubbing alcohol, it can loosen up sticker gunk off so it comes off nicely.

I use a combination of compressed air and vacuum, I primarily use the vacuum so the dust doesn't go everywhere.

The most recent "dirty jobs" experience that I had... I had already started cleaning the dust/dirt before I took these pictures. I determined that this PC was too far gone and didn't continue...

I salvaged the RAM from this system and scrapped it...

Woo hoo! Today I ordered my full Windows 8 Pro edition via the Microsoft online store for $69.99 + U.S. tax of $4.37 = $74.36. Regular mail shipping was free. That's pretty darn reasonable for what one gets!

I'll continue to dual boot with 7 until I upgrade my Office and a few other programs. I also want to upgrade a few peripherals. I started out with Release Preview. No more counting the days down on my 2nd round of Enterprise Evaluation. It was fun while it lasted.

Today a post at 7F brought me back to 8F to answer, fully expecting to have it lock into link-mode again when I started dragging some of my 270 Firefox bookmarks into post. I was stunned to see that it now works and the links even retain their name and not change to URL I can't edit like text. I was so happy I used at least 10 of them to answer a question about Dual Boot for 8/Linux, which at 7F would need maybe 1-2 but we are now in the maw of "progress" with Secure BIOS and UEFI that make Win7-like simplicity a thing of the past.
