How to Enable or Disable App Toast Notifications in Windows 8 and 8.1

information   Information
Toast notifications in Windows 8 are balloon type notifications that appear as a themed bar in the upper right corner of your main display to allow a Metro app to communicate with the user whether the user is in another app, on the Start screen, on the desktop, or on the lock screen.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable app toast notifications for applications for all or specified users in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.

Note   Note

  • If you disable toast notifications in Windows 8 or Windows RT, the Notifications option will be removed from PC settings.
  • If you enable toast notifications, toast notifications can be turned on or off by the administrator or user.
  • This policy does not affect taskbar notification balloons.
  • Windows system features are not affected by this policy. You must enable/disable system features individually to stop their ability to display toast notifications.
