But when I take my kids to the park, and they are playing on the playground equipment and I don't have a book to read, or a person to talk to, it sure is nice to pull out my phone and check my email, read facebook, or fire up a news app to see what is going on in the world. In addition, on the way back home, I can utilize the GPS functionality in the event that I am going somewhere I previously have not been.

This, I think because I normally miss the loading screen( so fast but I like windows 8 for it's performance, very fast. IE10 is much better than IE9 IMO.

It's not difficult to take either with me. It's just I don't always have those things with me. For example, lets say I am out with the family and my wife wants to get her haircut. Well, I might drop her off and then take the kids to play. While they are playing, I could be reading. Of course, I didn't realize that I would be doing this when I left the house, so I didn't bring a magazine or book. So, my phone provides that little bit of entertainment while I sit and wait.

Have to agree 100%, I've tried to respond politely to those making such statements but they aren't getting it, perhaps your direct approach will have more affect. Obviously not everyone is going to like Windows 8 and some of those that don't have clearly stated that it just doesn't work with the way they use their computer. As you've eluded to there are others that seem to think they speak for the majority, it's crazy.

As for your wallpaper, it just reminded me that my Laphroaig 18 is nearing its end and will need a replacement. I guess the question is do I go for the Laphroaig 25 or save some money and buy a Surface RT tablet? lol.

Thanks, Night Hawk. I didn't realize that NTFS was created that far back. If anything was a great innovation in computing, it was the NTFS file system. So that was the huge difference I noticed in performance. I jumped from 98SE on an old gateway to Vista on my new PC here. As you can see, hardware was a difference, but the file system is what actually made the bigger difference.

You're Welcome! The NTSF system was originally seen wth NT 3.5 and later NT 4.0 server versions to be updated to the present 5.0 with 2000. Fat 16/32 had to go as a progressive change to a more secure and stable platform except now what do you see?

Digital cameras, cell phones with memory cards, external hard drives, flash drives, etc. all use Fat since it is cross platform compatible with Mac as well as Windows. As far as NT 5.0 still being used on 8 that allows you access to the same volumes used for the previous versions as the standard file system. Eventually you may see a 6.0 but not for the present time.

Now as far as 8 is concerned overall it wasn't WMP but the Media Center that was removed. The WMP however lost dvd and video playback support since MS figured there were too many other players available?! Here I generally have WMP set as the default for both video and audio which will now make that useless!

Gaming may seem awesome for some simply due to having a clean install of Windows on rather then one on for a few years and simply in need of refreshing. Plus you may have more recent game titles and not struggling with older DX9 reliant or OpenGL based hard coded games that simply crash or won't even install. The 64bit 7 will be the last to see many game titles run on since you could still add the DX 9 elements on 7 along with DX 11. Many will need to dual boot 8 with previous just to run many games just like Vista was dual booted with XP!

As for Windows Live Hotmail MS is abandoning that entirely for the new to come Outlook.com while preserving existing Live account! The beta interface can seen when it is applied to your existing WLM account. The options link on the WLM page will revert it back to the normal Live look when selecting the option to revert found there.

Its much better with a Start Menu, thanks to the open source community over at www.sourceforge.org and the Classic Shell app. However it still lacks some of the fine tuning I could do with a Start menu in Win7.

What "fine tuning" do you find lacking in Classic Shell that the Windows 7 Start Menu had? It has far more settings than Windows 7's menu ever had.

Perhaps I didnt "fiddle" with the settings enough, but in Win7 I have many apps pinned to start, I also like having access to Network and Computer... perhaps you can point me in the right direction since you are a Classic Shell tester...?

Sure. If you pick the Windows 7 Start Menu style, to pin any app, simply drag it above or below the separator line. You can have pinned items either on top or bottom of Recent Programs by toggling the option "Show recent programs on top" on the Special Items tab in Start menu settings. The right column can be customized by going to "Customize Start Menu" tab. There you can add or remove any item. Hover over any setting to get help about it. To add "Network" or "Computer", add a "Custom" item from the "Available Commands" in the right column, position it where you want by dragging, then double click it and in the "Link" field, choose "Computer" or "Network".

I do see the <SARC> tag and understand what you are getting at. As a person who does read books on my Kindle, I'm not exclusive to it. Too many older books are just too expensive in their digital form...especially after prices were set by the publisher. So, I still do carry physical books from time to time.

You are also forgetting the price to the author. Producing an ebook is quite a bit harder than formatting galley proofs for a physical book. The pages must be formatted for 6"X7", contain hypertext bookmarks (made by hand, in most cases) and be divided into sections that can be easily cross-referenced and navigated. The author earns much less from an ebook than he/she does from a printed book.

As a writer, I like to have everything published physically (if possible). My margin is better and I do have to have silly things like food and clothes.

I didn't forget the price to the author. I didn't say that ebooks should be free. I'm saying that a book that Dean Koontz published in 2003, Odd Thomas, should NOT be $9.99 as a Kindle e-book in 2012 (Odd Thomas: An Odd Thomas Novel: Dean Koontz: Amazon.com: Kindle Store), when I can buy the mass market paperback brand new from Amazon in physical copy and have it shipped to me, for less than $9.99.

Also, I've seen many instances where a new book is released in physical hard cover for say $22.99 and it's available as a Kindle ebook for say $14.99. Then, 1 year later, that same physical book is reprinted in a mass market paperback version and is available for purchase at my local grocery store for $8.99..but yet the Kindle e-book remains at $14.99 because the publishers set the price and haven't adjusted since the paperback version was released.

While I am willing to pay nearly the same price for an e-book, I'm not going to pay more for something digital that I can obtain via a printed copy and then potentially resell to a used book shop.
