I suppose the second entry is sent by Error Reporting to MS?

Does anyone have a clue to what is causing the crash?

My recent install is the USB 3 Boost by ASUS.
Removed it and cleaned up the poorly done uninstall with an unofficial tool.

Did the SFC scan and it reports no integrity problems.
Task Manager seems to be back proper.
Monitoring before marking as solved.

No good.

Still getting those crashes once in a while.
It would crash and when you try to run it again it reverts back to simple mode and it would sometime crash again.

Don't think I want to do a refresh and lose all those settings.

Anyway I did a sfc /scannow.
It said it repaired some corrupted files but didn't fix the Task Manager crashes.

~iron 2000:

An option that I have not seen mentioned WRT Windows 8 is to do a repair install--which under earlier Win versions might fix system problems while leaving everything else intact. You'd need to thoroughly back up all your files for safety, although repair installs have been very safe historically. While I don't know why a repair install wouldn't work on Windows 8, I have not tried the procedure on Windows 8 nor have heard of anyone using it on Windows 8. To do a repair install, run the Windows 8 installer from within Windows on your machine. Choose the upgrade option (i.e., obviously, don't do a clean install). Of course, you must accept compete responsibility for trying this procedure. As indicated, I am not completely sure, WRT Windows 8, what will happen or if the procedure can even be applied. You also could try upgrading Win8 to Win8, so to speak, by choosing the upgrade option having started up to your DVD (presumably you have one).
