... I bought a Toshiba for $100 less. The thing kept crashing on me and after the fourth restore, I took it back, paid $100 more and got the HP mentioned above.

My daughter has a Toshiba and I think she's happy with it.
You can get a lemon with any brand. I bought a Toshiba laptop about 6 months ago and have not had a single issue with it.

I had my problems with the VAIO too. If you want to know the story, you have to read these 6 pages.

But that does not change the fact that it is a very solidly built laptop. I had the technician in my house taking it apart and I could see inside. It was a great laptop for what it did but it had a retarded BIOS. That was too bad because I really liked it and hated to return it.

Quite true. I've had good luck with Acer over the years past about 2006 but others say they are junk. I don't move mine around much though.

I think they are tied to HP. One of mine had a HP number on the box when I received it.

So I finally opted for an Acer Aspire V5 series with an i5 processor 8gigs of Ram for 600$. The downside is the integrated graphics but I don't really need it because I have a PS4.

The integrated graphics on the i5 is pretty good plus the 8GB Ram will help. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Like caperjack said above, try to avoid treating it like a Frisbee. Unless military grade, I don'r think any of them hold up well to being tossed around.

Good choice and good price. I've used Acer stuff (no PCs though) in the past and always had good luck. In fact, this 23" monitor is an Acer!
