Solved Stuck at recovery environment.

You can reset the BIOS by using the Default/FailSafe options in the BIOS.
Also, try other ports in case that one is broken.
Also try remaking the files on the USB drive.

Is there anything readable on the USB drive at all? -if so you may be able to copy it off to the Hard disk.

Pendrive linux has a USB multibooter for iso files which you can make booting with a live linux cd Boot Multiple ISO from USB via Grub2 using Linux | USB Pen Drive Linux

if you have the windows 8 iso or the windows 7 iso on your machine it may be able to use that iso file

the menu.lst (Grub.cfg) entry for the windows 7 iso is:

title win7-SP1 ISO
find --set-root /en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x86_dvd_619077.iso
map /en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x86_dvd_619077.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

for the windows 8 RP it is

title Boot Windows8-ReleasePreview-32bit-English.iso
find --set-root /Windows8-ReleasePreview-32bit-English.iso
map /Windows8-ReleasePreview-32bit-English.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

make sure the filenames are the same in the menu as on your drive.

afterthought

Offline Windows Password & Registry Editor

the NTPASSWD bootable disk allows you to blank off the admin password in any Windows NT inc Vista 7 and 8 afaik

title Offline NT Password & Registy Editor
find --set-root /cd100627.iso
map /cd100627.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

it seems like usb should work fine. idk why it doesn't.
i have win8cp iso on my hard drive, but am unable to copy to usb.
i have done as instructed but recieved following:

The partition table has been altered!

Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table.

WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 16: Device or resource busy.
The kernel still uses the old table. The new table will be used at
the next reboot or after you run partprobe(8) or kpartx(8)

Right - so you are using fdisk in Kubuntu to set up the USB to be bootable. The next command is supposed to be d to delete existing partition try ignoring the warning

All these are a list of actions which will be run when you finally issue the w command to write them

Linux gives copious warnings - I think you can just follow the instructions the umount command next,

II. Create a Fat32 Filesystem on the USB Flash Drive:

  1. Type umount /dev/sdx1 (to unmount the mounted partition)
  2. Type mkfs.vfat -F 32 -n MULTIBOOT /dev/sdx1 (to format the partition as fat32)
III. Install Grub2 on the USB Flash Drive:

  1. Type mkdir /media/MULTIBOOT (to create a directory for the mountpoint)
  2. Type mount /dev/sdx1 /media/MULTIBOOT (to mount the USB)
  3. Type grub-install --force --no-floppy --root-directory=/media/MULTIBOOT /dev/sdx (to install Grub2)
  4. Type cd /media/MULTIBOOT/boot/grub (to change directory)
  5. Type wget pendrivelinux.com/downloads/multibootlinux/grub.cfg(to get the grub.cfg file

OK - we are getting there -

I wonder, has the USB been automounted by kubuntu? Ubuntu is getting much too user friendly these days!

Can you see the drive (\dev\sdg1) in the file manager or on the desktop - i'd better fire up a linux on my old PC to see what's going on -

Depends how brave you feel! Safety says check if you can boot from the USB then reboot to the CD again and copy over your windows install iso to the root directory of the USB then edit the grub.cfg file to boot from the iso
