Store - Re-register in Windows 8 and 8.1

How to Re-register the Store in Windows 8 and 8.1

information   Information
This tutorial will show you how to re-register the Store app to fix the Windows Store when it has the following issues below in your account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

:ar: After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the Store may not start at all.

:ar: PC settings doesn't open. For example, when you click/tap on Change PC settings in the Settings charm.

:ar: When you try to open the Store, it shows a progress ring, but never finishes loading.
Store.jpg

:ar: The Store tile on your Start screen still shows the number of available app updates when there's actually not any available.
Store_Tile_Number.png

Here's How:

1. Open a command prompt.

2. In the command prompt, copy and paste the command below, and press Enter. (see screenshots below)

Code:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML
re-register-Store_CMD-1.jpg
re-register-Store_CMD-2.jpg

3. When finished, you can close the command prompt, and try opening the Store again.

Note   Note
If you get the 0x8007064A error in quotes below, then it means that the Packages registry key below does not have System set as it's owner. For how, see step 3 in Option Three here: How to "Take Ownership" of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8 and 8.1. Afterwards, try again.

(registry key)
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\[COLOR=#ff0000][B]Packages[/B][/COLOR]

error 0x8007064A: Cannot register the request because the following error was encountered while initializing the windows.repositoryExtension extension: The
configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel
.

That's it,
Shawn

Brink,

thanks for all your help and advice. With a machine that has been in daily use by three users for over 18 months starting 'clean' just isn't an option - I can live without the store if necessary, all the really good stuff takes place on the desktop. Anyway, if I was going to take that route I would have absolutely nothing to lose if I tried my idea first. If it went chest up I could re-install windows at that point. Thanks for sticking with me - much appreciated. If I do find an answer I'll be sure to let you know.

I'd like to know if there's any way I can run the Store as SuperAdmin?
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this question. Thanks in advance!

Hello Samir, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm afraid not since the Store requires that you be signed in with a Microsoft account. :(

Thank you so much for answer!
But I configured the auto login, then I do login directly in my Microsoft account.
So don't know why I still can't acess the Store?
Sorry if I'm annoying with this or if I'm talking something wrong.
I don't know so much about sys config.

Hi again Brink! Sorry for the late reply bro! Just to let you know that I did all said in first page and the last instructions you gave me. But didn't work. I even reinstalled my W8 tomorrow to see if this can solve it but still nothing.
I would like to ask you, if I create a new user and install the apps I want, than when I remove this user I still will have acess to this apps? Thank you so much for your attention mate! Take care!

Hey Samir,

You'll have to reinstall all modern apps in the new account. If you don't already have shortcuts for desktop apps, you'll just need to create new shortcuts for them instead of reinstalling them.

I'd recommend to switch your broken MS account to a local account, create a new Microsoft account on the PC with the same email address, then set it up how you like. This will minimize how much you may have to set and reinstall since most of it will be synced.

Hi Brink, I said that i would keep you updated on my problem with the store not loading so here it is. I eventually decided that, rather than risking a catastrophic crash, I would leave it alone and live without access to the store (all the REAL work takes place on the desktop anyway, right?). Every so often I waould try the store just for the joy of watching those dots chase each other eternally. Then, last night, the store suddenly loaded perfectly! I can only assume that as part of one of their myriad updates microsoft coincidentally replaced the corrupt file that was causing the problem. Thought you might like to know! Cheers, Bob

Not with a local account, but you will after you create a new Microsoft account on the PC with the same email address to use instead of the old broken user account.

Hello Phil,

I'm happy to hear it was able to help.

Sure, you would just copy the command in a .txt file, save it, and rename it to what you like with a .bat file extension.

Here's one below ready for you if you like. :)

Hello Shawn! First of all I would like to to compliment you on all those tutorials and helpful guides you provide. I've done pretty much everything, but the thing is, I'm using a netbook. My store opens, but when it starts to load, it freezes up and crashes. Since I'm running my windows on a netbook Asus 1025C, I honestly don't expect it to be fully functional. So, if you can help me solve this out, I would be quite happy! But not only that, I would like to ask how "necessary" that store is, since I can still download and install programs out of it and they work perfectly.

I'm attempting to use Windows 8 simply because it runs smoother than 7 this netbook, which I use pretty much only for studying and on the go movies, hehe.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Shawn, I've read and tried all those steps before posting actually. Since I booted from 7 to 8, I think I'll try to do those steps again and see if everything fits properly. Like I said, I'm using a netbook, which might be the actual problem since the graphic component it hosts (though it says it can handle Win 8), might not be enough to do so. Or maybe something went wrong during the instalation process, that's why I might do it from the beggning again, hehe. I'll let you know of my findings! The native apps open, but crash right after and the netbook boots (I think this might be related to the instalation process overall). I ran the sfc / scannow, which returned me no errors, and the troubleshooter, which asked me to register the store again and clean the cache, but even after doing so, the store kept crashing and forcing the boot. If doing the upgrade process from 7 all the way up to 8.1 don't work I'll try to get some logs and send then to MS and see what what happens.

Thanks once more!

Hi, Sort of stumbled accross this page by pure chance, I have had a problem with the change pc settings not working for over a month now tried allsorts including the post on here dedicated to my problem (change pc settings fix), nothing worked even when asking my pc supplier for help. Then I noticed my store app was also not working so tried this fix you posted above. Yahooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! WORKED FIRST TIME. Store working but more importantly the change pc settings is now functional. I would just like to say thankyou very much. Hope anyone else with the same problem finds your post too. Thanks again Mick.
