Sometimes you can't hit tiles and windows key won't work

Other than going through the test of the troubleshooting steps to see if one may be a cause, nope. :(

Other than a refresh or reset, I'm not sure what else could fix this to prevent having to hit Alt each time. :(

It might sound silly...but is it just your ALT key getting stuck ON?

I've had problems before where the ALT keyboard key thinks it's being permanently pressed down and causing no end of havok.

Pressing the ALT key a few times toggled the ALT key back off and fixed this for me for the same sort of fix you've found that works.

Completely formatting, and installing with my Windows 8 CD.

OK, where did you get the Windows 8 DVD from? I ask because you normally don't get any install Media with a PC that has Windows 8 Pre installed. Depending on where you got your ISO it may not be a reliable image and might be the source of your issues.

OK, that should be good assuming its not smudged or scratched. I don't have any other suggestions at the moment. I had this problem consistently on my two older desktop PCs and never did find the cause. On the other side of the coin though my new laptop that came with Windows 8 hasn't had that problem once.

I'm thinking it's an ATI thing. What were the graphics cards, if you don't mind mentioning.

NVidia chip-sets and video cards in the two desktops. AMD/ATI A-10 in my laptop. I always thought it was a video driver problem or video card problem.

I'm using a ATI HD 4350. This is really a difficult problem to solve.

It annoyed the hell out of me and eventually I just gave up and went back to Windows 7 on my two desktop PCs. The only way I could fix it was to reinstall (clean install) 8 and then just wait for it to happen again. On those PCs it happened with every version, DP, CP and the RC. I kept hoping it would be fixed but it never did stop happening.

Yep, it doesn't happen instantly, it seems after 3 or so days after my install. I did go back to Windows 7 for some while, and figured it might have a Windows update fix.
