I think this came as a hacker rootkit in Win 8 pro downloaded from pirate bay.

M0xx is russian hacker. He is connecting to your computer through anonymous phone.

Or am i totally wrong here?

This problem has been around since Windows 7 with devices connected to your neighbors WiFi showing up in either the network map with Windows 7 or on the device list with Windows 8.

It does NOT mean that someone has hacked into your network. It's just showing locally connected devices that aren't necessarily connected to your network. It's not a security leak.

How is this even possible when security is enabled blocked devices from your LAN?

As long as your connection point is encrypted and therefore protected you should be all right. I see many strange entities on my wireless network which I use for my iPad and Nexus tablets. It just means they are polling for a signal in the area and not necessarily connected. If you are using an encrypted connection with a nice, complicated pass key then you should be fine.

I think you've misunderstood the issue. The devices are not owned by the owner of the LAN.

I have also got a ghost device coming and going, it shows up as a Samsung GT-N7105. Could this be down to a person close by searching for a Wi-Fi network to connect to and it's just showing on Windows as connected but all someone has done has searched on their phone for a Wi-Fi network to connect to?

I have the "Turn Access Control On" switched on so no one could connect to my wifi without the MAC address being added to the access control list so I assume I'm safe.

I did a fresh format and install of Windows 8 64 Bit Pro. Sorry but I couldn't live without a start button so I have installed the Start8 start menu which is great. I try sometimes not to use it but find metro frustrating to find programs as I have many. I will use Metro for apps only and desktop of serious computing.
If your wireless router and/or modem is using secure encryption (WPA-2 or better) then they can't connect to it, but you will see strange devices showing up in the network map, that doesn't mean they can use it.

By the same token you can look for other wireless networks in your area and I am pretty sure you wont be able to connect to any of them but then they would see your machine as a phantom in their networks.

What determines this? I've never seen anything in the Windows network map that isn't on my network. As for my router, I use Tomato firmware and see the SSIDs of other routers when I use its "Wireless Survey" feature, but I've never seen random client devices there or in its "Device List" page. Seeing other people's "machines" in your network sounds very unusual to me and reminds me of the early days of cable modems.

Maybe I'm thinking of a Bluetooth network as those do tend to show all kinds of strange machines in the vicinity, in whiuch case forget I posted.

I'm using WPA/WPA2-PSK (Mixed Mode) on my router, I think you guys are right, maybe every time my Wi-Fi shows up on someone's phone Wi-Fi search it will show in my Network but like you say that doesn't mean they are connected!

I've never seen that happen, and it would be a strange, pointless thing to do. What if you had a party with 10,000 guests? What would be the point of showing 10,000 devices that aren't connected to your network as falsely connected to your network?

Has anyone had an HTC One S named ville on their network?

YES! I've spent the last two days frantically securing my whole network and things continued to show up anyway.. One of the early devices that showed up was the HTC One S with the name "ville". I can't remember the mac though..

Since I have two routers running in different locations connected via an openvpn tunnel, I almost shat my pants thinking there was leakage somewhere in my setup..

So far I can confirm that all the devices that showed up were android devices of some form or another. I had the aforementioned ville, a "razorg", a "Bravia 4K 2015".. All of which are apparently android devices.

Fixed

Hey guys. Just thought I'd let you know. I was having the same issue, and finally found a fix. For Windows 10 anyways. Turn off your SSID broadcast through your router.

It appears that any device picking up your router's broadcast will briefly show as being connected to your network. Even though its never assigned an IP or anything. This was driving me insane, as I'm overly paranoid, but I'm finally at ease.

Not sure how old this thread is, but it was hard finding any actual useful information on this anywhere, and thought it would be helpful to post.

Best way is to change your passcode for wireless to a string of around 30 totally random characters, Upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols, (write it down and put it in a safe place, the chance of someone breaking into your home to steal a passphrase are virtually zero).

Once all your devices are connected go into your router settings, (change the default SSID and the access user & password, (admin & password, is not that safe ;) ), Also, if you can, switch off the broadcast of the SSID and set the system to only allow devices on a MAC address whitelist to connect, MAC addresses are designed to be unique worldwide, they can be spoofed but this would require some serious hacking which is unlikely for a private individual.

If someone invades your network after doing this then you have a serious issue and would need to consider serious defence of the system Or more likely the person breaking into the system is someone you know who has access to the passwords and router
