ETA: Somehow after several rounds, the last Disconnect did the trick. I entered the old name for my admin account as the local user account to switch to and it was accepted despite there being no current local account with that name. Only the original User Folder appears under C:\Users, I have the right Desktop, and the laptop boots directly to the desktop.
I recently wanted to download an app from Microsoft for Win8.1Pro, and in the process agreed to somehow let my Microsoft credentials become the Admin User Account credentials for my computer. Only one User account has ever been set up. Now I'm required to log in every time I boot, and see the MSFT stuff there on the login screen instead of my old Admin account name. I've had no luck reverting back to the former condition, despite following several bits of online guidance for removing that account connection, removing the password requirement, or even creating an auto-logon setup. Unfortunately I did not have System Restore set up.
Can anyone tell me how to undo what has been done?
