Is there an offline software package I can use to analyze why I can't don't have online access for my desktop; our laptop access is fine, modem and router are fine

device manager doesn't show any red or yellow indicators of problems with any device

right-clicking properties for my NIC (within device manager) shows it is working fine

had installed a new NIC but no change in status so uninstalled and took back to store

problem NIC is on the motherboard..

Thank you.

What NIC model and latest drivers installed?

Did you reboot?

REaltek 10/100/1000 I have updated the driver from Realtek's site. Should I remove the Win7 folder in the Realtek folder within program files x86? I have checked properties for the network adapter and it shows the new drivers.

I'd remove the folder, uninstall the NIC in Device Manager, reboot and let it re-install. See if it works.

What model of Gateway?

Have you tried the drivers from the Gateway site? They are old but sometimes the OEM drivers are the only ones that work right.

I had been trying several things and something worked. I don't know what, but a setting somewhere (my guess the Registry) was set correctly. I have access now.

Thank you for suggestions. Now, after Windows updates yesterday, metro apps minimize to the taskbar after 10 seconds. I posted in another forum. (I know this is networking)
