Solved Site's thumbnail in Firefox's Top Sites page

I use Firefox (81.0.1) and my preferred way to open my most used sites is through the tiles on the Top Sites page. My tile for Eight Forums is set to the address of the What's New page. I do not have it set to use a custom image so it should show a thumbnail of the page in the url. Until a day or so ago it looked like this....

...but it has now been 'updated' to something more 'musical' like this.

The tiles for Ten and Seven Forums are similarly configured and they have not changed. This has occurred across all my PCs. What has caused this?

I'm not sure what is causing that mine shows the site logo icon.

I have checked across five of my machines now and all but one now show the music icon.

The one that still shows the proper tile uses a public facing IPv4 address (as shown by Google 'what's my IP address'). All the ones that have changed to the music icon are using IPv6.

Strike that, turning off IPv6 made no difference on one of my machines. What does make a difference is editing the URL of the tile. If it is set to www.eightforums.com then the tile is correct, but if I set it to my preferred www.eightforums.com/whats-new then I get the music icon.

It was me I've uploaded the wrong file to the site, it turns out I had two 192.png's in subfolders of my pictures and I used the wrong one.

It was me .....

FF can be a bit like a dog with an old bone as far as the tiles icons are concerned, but I've now convinced it to forget that old one. All back to normal now, thanks.

Hmmm, I keep getting the music icon reappearing at odd intervals. I can always get FF to forget it and go back to normal, but it doesn't stick for more than a day or so.

It's just happened again, this time I noticed that it changed immediately after a push notification for one of my watched threads. Coincidence?

I'm still getting the music icon returning after a while. However, only when I use an https url

FYI This works to retain the correct thumbnail:

...and despite being http it takes me to the https site when I click on the tile in FF.

You must be caching the old icon somewhere, the site http and https are the same files with just a redirect from the server so it can't be different from one to the other.

Yes, seems the most likely explanation. FF is like a dog with an old bone as far as the thumbnails for these tiles are concerned. It can take a lot to convince it to let go sometimes - for any site, not just this one.

Thread is 'Solved' in that the cause has been removed, now any after-effects must all be at my end.
