Windows 8 x64 WEI Score, Toshiba Satellite laptop, i5-2410M, 8 GB RAM

Here's my Win8 x64 score:

Win8WEI_Run1.jpg

Both graphics scores hit 6.3 in Windows 7, intel HD3000 drivers for Win 8 x64 not yet optimal.

I have an OCZ Vertex3 120 GB SATA3 SSD that scores 7.9 in Windows 7, currently testing Win 8 with Hitachi 320 GB spinner.

So far, my metrics show Windows 8 x64 to be about 12 - 15% faster than Windows 7 x64 in MFLOPS and integer performance, and the thread scheduler is much more efficient and smooth than in Win 7. My i5-2410's fourth "virtual" HT core has finally reported for duty, and is pulling its weight.

Running World of Warcraft Cataclysm 64 bit client, 1366 x 768 x 32 bit, high detail/eye candy, getting around 48 - 65 fps in crowded areas (disable vsync!). Works like a charm.

Also, getting about the same fps in Eve Online Crucible at same resolution. Zero issues, runs great.

Only downsides, so far: No OpenGL support at all (intel has probably completely bailed on it?), so no Quake2/Quake3 or Really Slick OpenGL screensavers.

Desktop Composition / Flip3D is gone (not a big deal).

Overall, I'm very impressed with the performance of Windows 8, and can't wait for the final retail release - even if I'm stuck back in the keyboard-mouse dark ages. No touch/swipe for me!

W8CP running under VMware Player : its clunky as heck....not the best way to experiment with W8CP. Wonder if its time to attempt a boot under VHD (host is W7 Ultimate x64)? What do you reckon?

Ran the assessment, and here is my score. I expected it to be lower than my Win 7 because I installed Win 8 on a secondary drive, Win 7 on a SSD.

Looks like I've got some work to do on my video, and my Core I7 Extreme Processor seems to be slacker these days. Oh well, time to tell the wife I NEED A NEW COMPUTER...wish me luck on that one!

Mine is ok but I am not sure why my graphic score is so low with a GTX 590?

Hi SmartEyeball … thanks for your reply. I am using the latest drivers "295.73". Any way to make it use both cores? On windows 7 I got a much better score.

Hi SmartEyeball … thanks for your reply. I am using the latest drivers "295.73". Any way to make it use both cores? On windows 7 I got a much better score.

Those are the drivers I'm using, so they shouldn't be the culprit.

AFAIK, the WEI will only ever use the 'primary' card, so forcing it to use both cores isn't doable I'm afraid.

All I can really suggest is to re-run the entire assessment. There used to be a flaw in 7 where video scores would get stuck a t 6.0 - clearing/re-running the WEI used to fix that up.
