Show us your WEI

8.1 doesn't have WEI.

That's what I thought ... which begs the question, are these scores from a Windows 7 machine??

We'll have to wait for the 8.1 RTM to see if the WEI returns. :)

Nah, a Windows 7 machine will have a max of 7.9 scores if I'm correct.

Yep, Win 7 maxes at 7.9, or potentially 7.8, never seen a processor score 7.9 on windows 7, not sure why, likely a glitch.

That is strange. What brand is your laptop?

It's a Toshiba Qosmio X70.

You guys have the same Intel HD 4600 but do you also have the same CPU and amount of RAM?

The Intel GPU is integrated in the CPU and shares RAM memory with the CPU. For example I got a HD 4000 and has just 32MB dedicated memory while it can access more than 1.5GB from RAM. Even though the 4600 is newer, the dedicated memory size isn't that big also (I'm guessing between 32 - 64MB) but the RAM sharing still exists.

So IMO the amount of RAM and CPU power will have an impact on the Intel GPU scores, still to be entirely confirmed. I switched from 8GB RAM to 16GB RAM and it didn't helped: GPU scores the same, the shared memory reported was still the same (1.5GB) since 8GB was more than enough and the CPU is the same (same speeds, specs and scores).

Probably if you jump from 2GB to 4GB or to 8GB RAM upgrade helps the Intel GPU scores a bit but this cannot be tested too much these days since 8GB or more is most likely in factory installed (GFX scores the maximum points already).

The same HD 4600 can be found on more CPU's so the CPU must be the one cause of different scores.
If you both have the same CPU then I will find the differences also weird then. :)

Yes, we both have identical CPU's (Haswell i7- 4700MQ) and RAM at the time of our WEI. I actually just swapped out the 12GB stock RAM from my HP Envy 17t-j000 Quad Ed. to 8GB of Kingston HyperX and it has not changed my WEI at all. Exact same numbers, just lower latency in my memory (Went from CL11 to CL9). We do have different Geforce cards but that seems irrelevant to this score.

For some bizarre reason my Graphics rating just jumped from 5.9 to 6.9.

Hardware didn't change, I don't think a driver was updated even.

It looks like our systems are now identical again lol!

Edit: Shoot, my HD4600 still sits at the 6.6 number. Darn

These numbers really don't mean much but it is curious to me that some people have identical configurations with different numbers. Sure, driver updates do play a role, but assuming everyone is staying updated (and I want to believe most forum members are diligent about this) then technically speaking we should have identical numbers.

I also see discrepancies with people using the Intel 520 SSD but I suspect some people are throwing these drives in without installing the 6gps cables.

Yeah, I don't think it makes a big difference, just found it odd. Especially since it seems to only detect HD 4600, not discrete cards.
I assume it isn't being adjusted by the discrete card as well because I would have expected my laptops videocard to be around the 8.0 mark, and certainly over the 7.5 mark.

Agreed. My last laptop also used Optimus with the Intel HD 4000 and Windows 7 could not detect it during the WEI rating. I am curious though as to what driver you are running for the HD 4600. Mine is currently 9.18.10.3071, which is the latest version offered by HP.

I am curious though to try downloading the generic Intel driver for this and see if that makes a change. It certainly won't hurt anything and a simple rollback will get my back to my OEM drivers if a problem comes up. I'll post an update if it proves to make a difference.

The current Intel generic driver for the HD 4600 is 15.31.9.64.3165. I'm going to give it a shot just for shs&giggles. ;)

Additional Information: That was a bust.

9.18.10.3165 is what I have installed.

Is this driver through your OEM? How are you liking the i7-4700MQ? I almost went for the i7-4800MQ but I'm honestly quite pleased with the performance of this CPU and it runs exceptionally cool even at full load! I was very surprised to discover that the Intel XTU program also works and that you can essentially undervolt it to use the same power as the 7402MQ and extend battery life.

Yeah, the drivers through my OEM, I quite like the 4700MQ though I went the opposite route than what you mentioned. I used XTU to overclock it by raising its maximum multiplier by 2 so that it runs close to 4800MQ speeds.

Updated my Intel Driver again, now getting 7.0 on both graphics scores.

Current driver is 9.18.10.3222
