Should I dump AMD?

Having terrible trouble with on-board video using an AMD processor. Can't get CCC to work and have underscan.

To be honest, I've always had trouble with CCC. only a legacy version (10.2) works with HD channels on satellite in the UK and even then there is still sometimes some pixelation and artefacts.

So, do I swap to an Intel based MB or try a non ATI video card? What would my options be for non ATI video cards? I need sound and all the HD gubbings over HDMI for blu-ray and Spotify etc.

Any advice?

AMD don't release new drivers and a new CCC version for Windows 8, keep in mind Windows 8 is not a final product and not all manufacturers support it.

This isn't a rheotorical question: these appear to be a new Catalyst suite for Win8 X64:

AMD Catalyst Drivers Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Haven't tried them (or Windows 8 CP) because I have a new 7000 series card, which the above release does not support.

Found and installed the catalyst driver for my video card ATI HD5570, works fine, no problems

Was surprised and impressed that Ati had the drivers in place already

Good finding,as you said it's only for the 6xxx and olders that's explain why today I checked for my 7970 and found nothing. At least they work on it.

Actually the page I went to has the 7xxx series card drivers too

AMD Graphics Drivers & Software

I just fallow your link, can you explain me this :

oops ok I didn't click the last link, well only one thing to do then and that's ask when they are going to update that, let you know what they say

Hi there
Quick, concise and to the point.

YES

We always knew AMD was an upstart co. -- it won't survive the next super generation from INTEL unless it merges / joins forces with some other people.

Even in the early days when there were problems with some ATI graphics posing as Nvidia card "clones" :

if anybody suggested AMD we'd say A(sk) M(y) D(og) from whom you'd get a better answer to your question anyway.

The Cheapest option isn't always "The cheapest" in the long run -- there's far more to this than the base "shelf cost" of the hardware from the store.

Apparently not, well of interest also, clicking on the link that says "do you own a amd radeon hd 7970" doesn't work properly either. of course you can't compare a video card by its webpage....:p

Decided to abandon Win8 instead.

Smart man. I was going to tell you the problem probably wasn't the hardware. I have mixed and matched a pretty wide variety of hardware and never seen any problems with certain cards not working on certain boards. I know it is possible but in the hundreds of systems I have done it has never happened to me. I build systems for people and some times people want some weird rubbish but it always seems to work.

My problem is that with the TBS6981 card and HD channels, only the 10.2 version of CCC works without horrible pixelation and artefacts.

Having tested 12.2 on Win7 and it not fixing this particular problem, it's unlikely that CCC and win8 are any good for me right now.

If I go down the Win8 route, I'll most likely need an intel based solution.

What non-ATI video cards are available?

the problem isn't amd its windows 8 bugged drivers works fine in windows 7 and xp

You can go nVIDA or a intel HD integrated graphics which would mean you would need a new mobo and cpu if your using a amd mobo at the moment but just getting a nVDIA card would be fine with a amd mobo.
