Solved Secure Download Manager cannot remove or install

Got half way through install of Secure Download Manager. There is no entry in Programs and Features to run the uninstall. But if I try to install I get the dialog that the install is already in progress. So I cannot take it off and I cannot put it on. On this Laptop I'd rather not do a Restore Point except as last resort. They are unreliable on this machine.

Anyone worked around this catch 22?

I powered down, and back up. I could run the installer. But now I'm back where I was an hour ago. The progressbar for the installr is hung at around 55%. I don't see any resources being used in Task Manager. For some reason I thought the thing was hard wired to the particular download. So I uninstalled it. That seemed to go fine. But when I tried to install I got this hang.

I seem to remember BITS working better than this.

It might be a dependency that's missing. Something like an older version of dot net framework, or Visual C++. Usually they prompt for it to be installed. I don't use download managers so that's about all I can say.

Yeah, there is no choice on this one. It's the only channel afaik to download stuff from DreamSpark. I killed the installer and dragged the download info file onto the SecureDownloadManager.exe to do Open With. It started downloading. But super slow. I'll try the drag and drop trick later when I get a good WiFi connection.

After running Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner Registry Cleaner somehow or other it got to the state where running the installer offered to complete the install if I clicked the Finish Button. Now it has the file association and I can run the download just by double clicking the download .cdx file.
