seagate ext drive that is not recognised

I have a sea gate ext drive that is not recognised this happens every 3/4 weeks regular as clockwork
i have to uninstall and reinstall then all is good for another month any ideas why would be appreciated. This drive has been installed for 18 mths. Just started dipoing this 3 mtago

Have you tried anything else with that USB port? - or the USB plug itself? try cleaning both and getting a fresh driver.

Thanks for reply yes other devices work on sub connection what I'm getting is code 38. Dying another version is in the memory. Tried numerous suggestions but no solution
